Project Overview

Many thanks to Hague Dental and Portman Dental Care for the recent refurbishment of Surgery 4 at Harley Street Dental & Implant Clinic at 90 Harley Street.

Being a listed building, Hague and its contractors had to maintain the integrity of the fixtures of the building, and they were very flexible in this regard.

The overall ergonomic design of the new surgery is so much better than the previous layout, especially my own seating position and the chair itself with regard to the patient’s head position.

Bespoke cabinetry flow and functionality: The surgery is in three parts – clinical, non-clinical, and a consultation area – there is bespoke cabinetry and desking in all areas and it all works really well together.

Hague’s Project Management and overall attention to detail were essential to the project and Darren (Hague Dental Project Manager) was superb in working from Hague’s end, bringing together Portman, my team, equipment, cabinetry, electrics, decoration, IT, etc and dates as we were working within a very tight window of 14 days (including weekends)

Chair package selection – A-dec 500: I’ve had several A-dec chairs over the years and I was keen to go for A-dec once again but wanted to go for the most comfortable option for our patients, providing us with all our clinical needs. Positioning the patient is easy and bringing the patient’s head close to the operator is facilitated by the chair design and headrest. The post-install training from Justin Hind from A-dec was invaluable – from dentist and nurse seating to chair positioning.

IT proved to be our biggest challenge during the project. It needed some retro-tweaking after the installation to get everything working as we needed it to be, so give extra attention to that if you’re embarking on a dental surgery refurbishment.
